According to the new election integrity law, Texas removed more than 1.1 million people from its voting rolls, including more than 457,000 deceased individuals. The state also removed more than 6,500 mistakenly registered non-citizens and over 6,000 felony convictions, all under the implementation of Senate Bill 1 (SB1).
SB1 contained several provisions aimed at strengthening election integrity. Governor Greg Abbott signed many other bills to ensure free and safe elections in Texas.
Governor’s Statement
Governor Abbott emphasized, “Ensuring election integrity is vital to our democracy. Texas will not tolerate illegal voting.“
It is a giant step towards making the state’s election process secure, and many believe that it should be enforced across the entire nation.
