The Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie closed its exhibitions Monday in preparation for a months-long renovation.
The Skokie museum is still open for public programming until July 1, when it will fully close through at least December when it undergoes the upgrades. A smaller satellite site with several exhibits will open July 1 at the former Broadcast Museum, 360 N. State St., which will be open seven days a week 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It will partially reopen Jan. 2, and a grand reopening is slated for the summer of 2026, according to the museum. The museum will stop taking in new artifacts until September 2026, and research requests and physical access to the museum’s full collections will likely be limited until at least 2027.
Today is your last chance to visit before we temporarily close for renovations on 6/2! We’re undertaking a transformation to further our mission to remember the past and transform the future. We hope to see you today for one more visit: https://t.co/uJm3BSWX7J pic.twitter.com/Fbozff9yhT

The “significant upgrade to the facilities” includes an expanded lobby, a new visitor welcome center, a redesigned state-of-the-art auditorium, and a reflection space within the Karkomi Holocaust exhibition, among other modernization efforts.
Updates to the construction will be provided on the museum’s website.
