“Belichick’s dating a girl. ‘Oh, let me do nine shows about it.”

Former ESPN writer and current Meadowlark Media host Pablo Torre has been driving the coverage of Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s interesting relationship dynamics and the impacts of those dynamics at the University of North Carolina.
But Torre’s dogged approach on investigating the duo and the multiple episodes devoted to the subject on his “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast seems to have drawn the ire of longtime Boston sportswriter and The Ringer founder Bill Simmons.
As part of a recent episode of “The Rewatchables” — focused on the 1978 film, “Heaven Can Wait” — Simmons pivoted to Torre’s coverage while discussing a character from the movie, Leo Farnsworth.
“Pablo Torre would’ve done a long podcast about Leo Farnsworth trying to practice with the team, and then done a media tour about it afterwards,” Simmons said. “I’ve never seen anybody dine on a stupider story for a week and a half while pretending you’re a journalist. What the [expletive] was that? Seriously.
“Belichick’s dating a girl. ‘Oh, let me do nine shows about it,’” he said. “Settle the [expletive] down.”
Simmons’ comments prompted the other two hosts, Chris Ryan and Van Lathan, to counter whether Simmons’ affinity for the Patriots might be clouding his sentiment about Torre.
“Alright, alright. You don’t need to do a media tour about a [expletive] podcast,” Simmons said when Ryan asked if Simmons would have the same reaction if the subject matter involved someone like Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie.
“It was a story that everybody was talking about to be fair,” Lathan responded.
“That’s fine. Maybe do two shows about it,” Simmons said.
A now-viral interview on CBS Sunday Morning might have sparked the ongoing drama surrounding Belichick and Hudson.
But Torre has been at the forefront of supplying additional details and information regarding the duo — be it his report that Hudson was banned from UNC’s football facilities (a report that UNC denied), or concerns from individuals close to Belichick and his family about Hudson’s influence over him.
It didn’t take long for Torre to respond to Simmons’ criticism.
“Dear @BillSimmons: Since you have such a strong public opinion about my work… I happen to have a few questions for you, specifically,” Torree wrote on X. Unless you’re afraid of @pablofindsout and someone just ‘pretending to be a journalist,’ of course. Thanks, Pablo.”
While it doesn’t seem like the storylines revolving around Belichick and Hudson are quieting down any time soon, those narratives have now apparently sparked a new media feud between Simmons and Torre — or what stands to be an entertaining new episode of Torre’s podcast series.
