Commuters at the Back Bay MBTA station won’t be running on Dunkin’ for a while after city inspectors found “gross unsanitary conditions” at the store, including rat droppings and a live cockroach.

The inspection yielded 18 violations, according to a Wednesday report from the Inspection Services Department. The Dunkin’ location fell far below city standards for safe food handling, storage, and preparation.

Worse still, the store showed signs of some unwelcome guests. Inspectors spotted rat droppings and a live cockroach, and a video apparently showing a live rat nestled in a bakery rack went viral.

On the Dunkin’ website, the 145 Dartmouth St. location is listed as temporarily closed.

Other violations included a lack of soap and paper towels at the main sink, a leaky pipe, holes in the ceiling, and a noticeable smell of urine on the soiled floor, according to the report. Additionally, no manager was on site during the inspection, and employees prepared food without gloves or proper food thermometers.

The location was last inspected Jan. 13, and no violations were found, according to the department’s log of inspection reports. However, an inspection only 10 days earlier uncovered unclean counters, an unclean ceiling vent, and a loose ceiling panel.

The Dunkin’ has also had pest control problems in the past, as inspectors found a live roach in front of the dish machine last May, according to the report log.

A representative from Inspire Brands, which owns Dunkin, did not return a request for comment.
