NOKOMIS — Nokomis High School‘s athletic program will remain at its current classification in 1A, according to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), per a news release Friday.
IHSA released the classifications for fall and winter sports for the 2025-26 academic year as a supplement to the news release.
Nokomis’ boys’ and girls’ cross-country programs, as well as girls’ volleyball, were classified as 1A among all fall sports. There was no data for the football program, which has been classified as 1A in recent years.
The Ramsey-Nokomis golf co-op will also remain at 1A. The same is also true for the Lincolnwood-Nokomis boys’ soccer co-op, which remains at 1A.
Nokomis will remain at 1A for all three of its IHSA-sanctioned winter programs in boys’ and girls’ basketball as well as Scholastic Bowl.
The final classifications for fall and winter sports for the 2025-26 academic year were approved on Tuesday by the IHSA Board of Directors during a virtual special meeting, finalizing the multiplier waiver process.
The waiver process for spring sports will be finalized during the board meeting on August 25, with classifications for the spring 2026 sports to be released shortly after.
Additionally, the board approved Hersey High School in Arlington Heights as the official host site for the IHSA Girls’ Tennis State Finals beginning with the upcoming academic year.
