GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A fatal crash shut down all lanes on part of the Greensboro Urban Loop on Monday, according to a Greensboro Police Department news release.
The crash happened near Mile Marker 9 on Interstate 840 West around 5:10 a.m. All lanes of I-840 were closed as a result of the crash at Exit 10 for North Elm Street.
Ka’Shawn Le’Kendric Williamson, 20, of Greensboro, was driving a Dodge Charger on I-840 East when he ran off the road to the left and hit a guardrail and cable median barriers. The Charger overturned and came to rest in the left, westbound lane.
A 61-year-old Browns Summit man was driving a Nissan Maxima west on I-840 when his vehicle hit the Charger.
Williamson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Browns Summit man suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Westbound drivers were being told to take Exit 10 for North Elm Street and follow it to Bass Chapel Road, taking a left on Air Harbor Road and then another left on Lake Brandt Road, following onto Lawndale Road to then get back onto I-840 West.

Eastbound drivers were being told to take Exit 8 for Lawndale Drive and then go left on Pisgah Church Road and then take a left to North Elm Street to I-840 East.

A live picture from the scene shows 2 cars involved in the crash, one of the cars overturned and both suffered major damage.

I-840 comprises the northern section of the Greensboro Urban Loop.
